Project Arrow Vision

A Lighthouse to the Global OEMs

The Automotive Parts Manufacturers’ Association (APMA) of Canada launched the first, original, full-build, zero-emission concept vehicle named Project Arrow. An all-Canadian effort, it will be designed, engineered and built through the joint efforts of our world-class automotive supply sector and post-secondary institutions. Answering Prime Minister Trudeau’s call for a Zero-Emissions future by 2050, Project Arrow will bring together the best of the best of Canada’s electric-drive, alternative-fuel, connected and autonomous and light-weight technology companies.

As the North American market enters a new automotive era that is driven by “ACES” (Autonomous, Connected, Electric, Shared), Project Arrow is the Lighthouse Initiative that showcases the capability of Canada’s world-class automotive supply sector by bringing together Canada’s Tier 1 supply chain, auto-tech SMEs and academic institutions. Project Arrow builds on our auto sector’s successful, advanced manufacturing roots with a goal to establish a more value-added, technology-centered foundation that is ready to drive a new age of automotive. This foundation will be the bedrock that will encourage investments from OEMs with and without footprints in Canada to develop their next gen product and technologies within our auto tech ecosystem. Furthermore, the project will serve as a powerful instrument for federal and provincial gap analysis in order to ensure that program roll-out strategies over the next several years are effective and targeted.

Project Arrow Supports and Strengthens the Canadian Automotive Sector

Bringing the Project Arrow concept vehicle to life will support:

• Increase electric vehicle development capacity
• Support future-thinking industry-focused R&D led by academic institutions
• Ensure that the supporting EV supply chain is present and growing.
• Paves the way for new OEM North American final EV assembly mandates in Canada

Key components and technologies that support the opportunity for the growth of zero-emission, EV manufacturing:

• New forms of Propulsion
• Battery Management Systems & chemistry and performance
• Fuel Cell Efficiency and supporting infrastructure
• High Performance on-board charging
• Light weighting
• Advanced Materials
• Level three plus (3+) autonomy
• Advanced cockpit design
• Exterior structure

Collaboration is Key

With nearly one hundred (100) product categories combining to make today’s vehicle, the APMA will challenge its automotive supply sector, along with Canada’s academic institutions and organisations to compete to join our team as a supplier for Project Arrow. We expect between twenty-to-thirty (20-30) Tier 1 and 2 automotive companies to collaborate along with multiple technology Tier 1’s and SMEs.
